About SD Tow Compare

SD Tow Compare is an independent local review publication covering service businesses across San Diego County. We started because we got tired of not knowing who to call when our own cars broke down — and we noticed almost nobody was doing real, comparative research on the local tow companies our friends were using.

Why we exist

Towing is one of those services you never think about until you suddenly need it. When you do, you're stressed, often on the side of a freeway, and being asked to make a fast decision about who to trust with your vehicle — and how much to pay. The information you need to make a good call isn't easy to find. Review sites are gamed. Google searches are dominated by the same few companies that run the most aggressive ads. Actual independent comparisons are nowhere to be found.

We set out to change that. We spend our days making calls, reading through hundreds of customer reviews, comparing posted pricing where it's available, and visiting company websites to see what they actually offer. Our rankings reflect real research, not paid placements.

Who runs this site

The editorial team is based in San Diego. Our lead reviewer, Mike Torres, is our Local Services Editor. Mike Torres has covered local service businesses in San Diego County for over a decade. He leads our towing and roadside-assistance research, spending his days calling dispatchers, comparing pricing sheets, and reading thousands of customer reviews so drivers don't have to.

We cover local service categories that locals actually search for when something goes wrong — starting with towing and roadside assistance, and expanding from there as we have capacity. If you have a category you'd like us to cover next, we're always listening.

Our independence

We do not accept payment in exchange for rankings, placements, or favorable reviews. Some links on our site are affiliate links — meaning we may earn a small commission if a reader uses our recommendation — but these relationships have no effect on our editorial rankings.
